Lammas 2013

Lammas, or Lughnasad, is the cross-quarter holyday which celebrates the first harvest of the grain. The first is the greatest harvest, and is significant to our physical, emotional and spiritual selves.  It is a time to honor not only what we harvest, but what is still on the vine and what we intend to do to bring the harvest in.

Lammas is traditionally observed on August 1, but this year the actual midpoint between the summer solstice and the autumnal equinox falls on August 7. The time between these dates provides special energy to help you harvest what is ripening in your life.

Reflection

How do we create a bountiful harvest, given the state of the world right now?

How do we create a harvest of peace, responsibility, and confidence in the future?

What helps us move from fear to confidence, from isolation to connection?

What nurtures us and brings release of fear?

Lammas Ritual

You can prepare for Lammas by creating a personal ceremony to be done on your own, with a friend, or in a group.

• State your intentions. Declare what you intend to reap this season and what you will do to bring the harvest in.
• Decide what is your harvest of peace.
• Determine what gives you strength.
• Name any fears that may be limitiing you by chanting: “may (state fear) pass, may (state fear) be released.”
• Write your fears on pieces of paper, then burn and release them.
• Dance away your fears.
• Share your intentions with others, or say them again out loud.
• Visualize your intentions coming to fruition.

Meditative Walk

You can get in touch with your intention with a meditative walk.   Walk mindfully, and focus on bringing your intention in as you inhale. As you exhale, send your intention out into the world.
